I'm sure there must be a much more appropriate name for these round (usually thin framed) shades that have now taken the world by storm but because I am not sure about the Haute-Couture Term yet - I'm fine with calling them John Lennons ('Lennons' for short).
For good reason I think.
And I believe I will stick to that term - its a cool name, for equally cool sunglasses.
This is Fayruz Abdiaman, she's of Somalian origin and is now signed to Sutherland Models (Toronto) - I could tell you about just how pretty she is (and how she is rocking that natural hair) but I feel that would spoil the post - enjoy the pictures, they speak pretty much for themselves.
I'm in a good mood - now - it may be because the school term has just ended, it may be because I havent slept (a wink) and I'm on some 'sleep-deprived high', or it could just be because, no matter where you are and what you're going through, its FRIDAY!No matter whats going on right now (work, break ups, blah blah...) i suggest you go out tonight, come on...no?
Okay - let me tempt you abit ;)
These are various pics taken from the MET afterparty, source you ask? Fashionspam and Vogue
First of all, I would like to thank one of my favourite bloggers Andrei Iacob - the brain child behind Fashion Spam - for these pics, they are lovely!
The thing is, all men, whatever sexual orientation they assume, should appreciate the beauty of the shoulder bag, its hot - and you would be too if you had one.
xx
Lets ignore the fact that its five in the morning (05:04 actually) and i havent slept yet - I have found these awsome pics from an exhibition called No Discount done by artistes Nadia Napreychikov and Cami James in Melboure Australia - they better bring on these fantastic pieces up here cuz I am digging them (like a grave...#throwback, lol!)
Okay - goodmorning/night.
Okay so I would like to thank The Fashion bomb blog for always giving me the information I need - you know that white dress Beyonce was wearing that I was ranting and raving about? Well - here it is.
Its a Givenchy Spring 2011 gown - two words - "I die".
I got to bed at seven this morning - I then had to wake up at eight, but for some reason I'm not crawling on the floor ridden by fatigue and I think its because I know its Friday, for some reason - no matter how bleak life is - there is always solace (and joy) in knowing that this week is over.
Heck yeah.
So anyway Beyonce has officially taken over the world; so while others try get on that (which we have already dealt with, done and dusted ;) and while she runs her revolution - lets have a look at some pictures and things I'm really liking.
Legoo!
Okay so if you know me well you know that I have been a big big big Beyonce fan for a very long time (I am proud to say that her and I were both born on the 4th of September - exacly ten years apart.lol) but please dont think I like her just becuase everyone else does, no, its simple really - she is the paragon boundary pusher; this new video, for example, will have many people thinking "Wow, okaaay, didnt expect that" but weeks later - those very same sceptics will be getting down to the very same jam! She comes up with stuff you thought you would never like and leaves you loving it - and that should be lauded.
As for her new video? Fashion, fashion, fashion - I am yet to find out the genius behind the white dress she is wearing as she stands with the chained hyenas (crazy i know - but i love it!) and as for those various gold get ups she is rocking and that black faux fur (?) vest she dons in the beginning - hot!Okay let me stop here before I get carried away with myself.
ps. for my fellow South Africans, does it not look like there was some kwaito inspired moves at the beginning??I think so.
Stunning.(who is the designer though?)
For your entertainment: The run the world teaser, edited really well - props to her team for such a good job.
There are so many values, ideas and understandings around the notion of the "sexy woman" - its all quite tiring really. who is to say you (yes, you reading this post) are not sexy?who is to tell you just what you have to do to achieve that conventional idea of "sexiness"?Yeah, thats right - no one. And thats why I'd like to post pics of the androgynous woman. The adrogynous woman tells sexy to, basically, go to hell, she walks out in her seemingly unflattering clothing unabashed and unashamed, she knows who she is and where she is from; she understands that she owes the world nothing, she knows she is a woman and her womanhood can never be taken away from her - she acknowledges "sexy", she (to an extent) even understands "sexy", but , she wont ever bow down to its laws nor pay it any amount of adulation.
She is her own.
Its raining outside, its cold, its wet, I've suddenly gotten the flu (wth?!)- and I miss summer! I saw this picture and I thought I cannot wait for the day when campus is ridden with flowers again, and the sun is out, and people are wearing the bare minimum for fear of contracting heat stroke - this flower girl here, makes me miss past seasons.
Sooo...I got tickets to coldplay!!!Can I get a whoop-whoop?!!Im so very excited I can't barely describe it!So now that I'm going - and even though its still only about five months away ( I dont care, preparation is key)- I have been thinking about what I'm going to wear; whats the most appropriate thing to wear to a concert?Well I found this picture and I thought "thats pretty much perfect" vintage - casual - fashion-forward: a perfect combination.
This could definitely have me singing along to Violet Hill in style:)
You know when you write down the "hundred things I need to do before I die" list? And you know when the twentieth or so goal is to "go to a coldplay concert" but even when you're writing this twenthieth goal down there is an inkling of doubt as to whether you would ever be able to because - at the time - it just seemed so impossible?
What if you found out that coldplay was ACTUALLY coming to your country to play in a city about ten or so hours away - what would you do?
Well I'm currently on the precipice of staging a local bank robbery - well not really, but Coldplay is coming to South Africa in October and i need to get my hands on a ticket before they run out!I've been hustling the WHOLE day - trying to figure out what to do, who to go with, how to get to Joburg (which is about sixteen hours away from Grahamstown by bus) how to get the money etc etc.
Pray for me - to whichever god you believe in - this time tommorow, i should have some semblance of a ticket!
Eep!
For your entertainment: one of my favourite songs - Shiver; from one of their earlier albums Parachutes.
I cant wait for the day when I indulge in never-ending weeks of total and complete non-productivity i.e chilling. There is something quite therapeutic about doing nothing at all that one only appreciates when they feel like they are doing absolutely everything!
*Sigh*...one day.
