Preen and Woolf

I love it when fashion and literature come together! This season Preen was inspired by literary icon and (in my opinion) genius Virginia Woolf.
With pastels and 'pixelated' prints the Preen s/s 2012 collection was creatively bold yet not overly loud, and all in all elucidated that mid 20th century, glamorised elegance and classist sophistication that Woolf revelled in but also criticised in her work.

The pastels added a lightness and a freshness to the overall collection making what could have been a serious portrayal of Virginia, fun and modern.

Love 2Bop

"Video game apparel for corner shop laanies who skiet games whole day."

2bop look book from ebrahim hajee on Vimeo.

I love this label, it's specifically African but it resonates internationally, it's urban and it's bad-ass. What's not to love??
Recently found this video of their Lookbook - if you weren't a fan, I bet you are now.

D.I.Y

I wonder how one does this without making it look like a complete and total mess? Will find out. Will get back to you.

Shot By Billy Kidd

"I'm a boy with a camera who gets distracted by shiny things and loves chocolate." - Billy Kidd

Those who are lucky get shot by wonderful, weird, but undeniably talented photographer Billy Kidd. He is a recent discovery and I must say I can't get enough; undertones of unrefined honesty have drawn me to his work. It's not conventionally wholesome or warm but it's beautiful...and that's what wins me over.

Akuol de Mabior

Akuol Garang de Mabior, born in Cuba, raised in Kenya, daughter of the late John Garang de Mabior; leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Army and the first Vice President of Sudan. Oh and she's a fantastic model.

I Wouldn't Mind.

A Hammered Collar Necklace by Young Frankk Jewelry. Umm...yes please??

Archived: Vogue Paris August 2005

While loitering on the net the other day I came across this amazing photo of models Vlada Roslyakova and Lily Donaldson, this is an editorial shoot they did almost seven years ago. I love this picture for a couple of reasons, one, because its hauntingly beautiful and secondly because it's still so relevant. I feel like photographer Steven Klein was way ahead of his time here - you could still place this editorial in a high end fashion mag today and I believe many would still love it, would still find it contemporary, fitting to our world today.
Ag it's just flippin awesome man.

The Drums

So...I've got a cold (bleh) and the only thing thats making me feel better today - other than Fisherman's Friend Extrastrong Lozenges - is this song by The Drums. It's an old jam, but it always seems to do the trick.

Lulie Wallace's Flowers

I doodle often i.e. I absentmindedly draw the most arbitrary things at the most inappropriate times (lectures, tutorials, dinner tables etc) and most of the time I doodle flowers; I've done this for years now but not once have my flowers come out as pretty as Lulie's.
It would be blasphemous to even begin comparing my abesentminded 'drawings' to Lulie Wallace's "honest materiality". I'm just saying, I draw flowers as often as she does, and hers always turn out
better.

Harper's Bazaar x Gwyneth Paltrow

I must admit, I completely underestimated this woman's level of sexy. On this recently re-vamped cover of Harper's Bazaar we can't even see Gwyenth Paltrow's face - and yet - the power of this picture is simply undeniable. The game of 'conceal and reveal' designer Anthony Vaccarello plays with this gown is just amazing. I'm so impressed, really, I am.

Friday Cool: Into It

If you're a lover of art, photography, fashion and culture then the local (and fantistically cool) site itswhatiminto is perfect for you. I recently found it and...well...lets just say, it's exactly what I'm into.

Midnight in Paris

I just came back from watching Midnight in Paris and I loved it. A truly Romantic film about one of the most (if not the most) beautiful cities in the world.
It's a must watch.

There Are Many Reasons Why I Love This Man.

And there are many reasons why I  love his brand. With one fell swoop Marc Jacobs can make an outfit look sophisticated yet edgy; taking out undertones of stiffness in sophistication and implementing a freshness, a liveliness, a colloquial coolness.
Bravo.

Living...and then you're Gone.

The only solace we find is that while she may be gone, her memory and her songs will live on forever.

Whoever said African designer's can't compete on fashion's international scale must be smoking something detrimental to their mental state.
We shun the non-believer.

Kelly Reemtsen

Kelly Reemtsen: fine art painter - I just discovered this artist's work, loving it.

Can you say....Gucci?

Ladies and Gentlemen - Gucci Pre-Fall 2012

Homage.

Whenever I play Amy Winehouse's 'Some Unholy War' I get teary eyed. I loved Amy, and the sad thing is I only realised just how much I loved that heavy, husky voice the day I found out I would never be able to hear it live again.

John Paul Gaultier's latest show has caused some-what of a stir in the fashion world; some have frowned upon the French designer's work, calling it impersonal, a mere attempt at cashing in on the death of beloved star.

Personally, I am just glad someone in the fashion world has acknowledged the contribution Amy made, not only to music but to art and fashion, I am glad someone is standing up and saying, "This was Amy, not a drunk or an addict, but an artist, an icon, a reckoned force".
